Week 6 – End the Gym: Annual Savings $528
Like many people, I had a gym membership that I did not use. This was a pretty simple savings week - cancel the gym membership ($44 per month). Exercising is an important aspect of living a healthy lifestyle, but you can do this without an expensive membership.
Here are some fun ways to get exercise for free:
¨ Go for a walk, jog or bike ride
¨ Kick the soccer ball around with your kids
¨ Go rollerblading
¨ Take the stairs
¨ Record exercise programs on TV or find them On Demand
¨ Get workout tips from workoutz.com
¨ Download exercise programs to your smart phone, tablet or computer
¨ Buy/Check-out a book on Yoga, Pilates etc, and start practicing at home
If you have children a good rule of thumb is to get out and play when they do. Don’t just take a seat and watch – join in the fun :)
Another assignment this week is to add up all of your Christmas spending. Look at the receipts, credit card and or banking statements and write it all down. Track it by person or family and make sure to list who you bought for (as much as possible). This tool will come in handy when you begin your Christmas shopping this year. My goal: Spend 20% less than last year.
