Week 24 – Turn Your Hobby into a Business
Most people think that starting a business takes a business plan and a lot of cash – not true. In this day of virtual shopping, selling on-line has never been easier. If you have a knack for sewing, crafts, photography, jewelry, cooking or simply want to learn something new – sell it. Cash in on your hobby and work at your own pace!
One of my favorite websites is etsy.com. Visit this website and you will see thousands of people selling items they made. It is truly inspirational to see people making money on their talents. I shop there quite frequently for clothes, invitations, party favors and unique gifts.
You can also earn extra money by buying name brand items on sale at discount stores and selling them on eBay. I personally know people who have made a business out of shopping sales. I have tried this myself occasionally when, for example, buying Christmas clothes at the end of the season and selling them in the peak of the following season. You must keep track of the cost (including sales tax) and how much you price the items (including shipping) carefully to make sure you are not losing money in any transaction.
