Week 19 – Be a Giver

While giving money away is not exactly a money saving technique, I believe it is important to give back.  It is always nice as human beings to help those that are less fortunate.  This year, I added this to my budget and tried to donate at least $25 a month to a charity.  If you cannot find money in your budget, there are other ways to give.

1)  Donate your time.  There are many organizations within your community that need help – contact one and offer your services.

2)  Donate blood, Organize a Blood Drive at your local church or work

3)  Donate unwanted items to a charity

Since donations are tax deductable, you will see some of this money return when you calculate your annual taxes.  For every $100 you donate, $25 be reimbursed in the form of a tax rebate.  In addition, any time used towards a charity can also be deducted in the form of mileage and expenses (i.e. gas) used to donate this time.

Many companies offer matching gift programs that will double even triple a donation’s value.  Check with your company or visit this American Red Cross website to see if your employer will match your contribution.

Our annual tax rebate for donations is approximately $50.
