Week 23 – Eat at Home:  Weekly Savings - $55

Similar to what we did in Week 10, this week we were strict about eating at home.  Eating at home or from home can be a lifestyle change for many people.  For example, going to an amusement park – we pack as much as they will let us bring in because you know that an $8 peanut butter and jelly sandwich is not a good way for anyone to spend their hard earned money.  It only takes a little time to think ahead and be prepared.  If you plan to run errands for the day, grab a snack or sandwich for the car so you will not be tempted to stop for lunch. Eating on the go does not have to mean fast food!

As a family, find ways to cook together and make eating at home more fun.  Our family has pizza night on Fridays.  We use to have it delivered, then we switched to frozen (1/3 the cost) and occasionally we make our own pizza.  It’s a fun family night in and a weekly tradition my children look forward to.

If you eat lunch at work, spend a week here and there brining a brown bag.  If you buy your coffee, try making it at home.  For our house, just the lunch and coffee change saved $40 per week.  Changing the pizza buying routine, saved an additional $15 a week.  It's amazing how quickly these small savings can add up.  Since we have pizza every Friday - 26 weeks of $15 savings added up to $390 for the year.

Carpool this week.
